Palermo airport to the city centre: bus, train and taxi

Falcone Borsellino airport (Punta Raisi) is about 35 km from central Palermo. You have three main ways into the city: the shuttle bus, the train or a taxi. Here is how each works and which suits you best depending on where you are staying.

Shuttle bus: the easiest option

The Prestia e Comandè shuttle leaves from the ground floor of the arrivals hall, on the right as you exit, every 30 minutes, every day of the year. Departures from the airport run roughly from 5 am to 1 am. In the city it stops, among other places, on Via Libertà, at Politeama (about 40 minutes), at Via Roma 265 and at the Palermo Centrale terminus (about 50 minutes).

A ticket costs about €6 online or in the company’s app, a little more on board, where you can pay cash or by card. Current timetable: prestiaecomande.it.

Train

Regional trains to Palermo, also known as the Trinacria Express, leave from the airport station: they stop at Palermo Notarbartolo and reach Palermo Centrale in about 50–60 minutes. A ticket costs around €6 from the station machines or the Trenitalia website. It is the best choice if you are staying near the Central Station.

Taxi

Official taxis wait outside arrivals. To central Palermo they charge fixed fares by zone, typically between €40 and €50: always ask for the price before you get in. The ride takes 35–45 minutes, traffic permitting.

By car

The A29 motorway links the airport to the city: it usually takes 35–45 minutes. Watch out for the ZTL, the camera-controlled limited traffic zone in the historic centre: read our guide to the ZTL and parking.

Getting to the Carella properties

B&B Carella and Palazzo Carella (Via Cavour, 95) and Appartamenti Carella (Via Carella, 8): take the shuttle to Politeama (a 9-minute walk) or Via Roma 265 (about 8 minutes). By taxi, give the Via Cavour address. By car you do not need a ZTL pass: Via Cavour is on the edge of the zone, not inside it.

Dimora Carella (Via S. Cristoforo, 15): take the shuttle to Via Roma 265 (about a 7-minute walk) or to the Palermo Centrale terminus (8 minutes), where the train also arrives. The Dimora is inside the ZTL: if you are coming by car, ask us for the pass before you arrive.

Arriving late? You can check in at any time: if you arrive after our in-person welcome hours, we send you instructions to let yourself in on the morning of your arrival. And if your flight is in the evening, leave your luggage with us: storage is free, with no time limit.
